Than vs Then – then and than difference : We know that there is a basic differenc between than and then . We generally know that Than vs Thenare two basic meaningful english words. Each of these words contains specific meaning. For the first time we will discuss about “THAN”, after which we will discuss about THEN. We will also discuss examples for both of the words bellow.

THAN

  It is a conjunction. It is also known as a preposition. We use this word to show difference between two things in comparative degree. “Than” connects two parts of sentences and gives a meaning to the whole sentence. It connects two parts of sentences and being connected gives a meaning to the whole sentence. So it is also known as a connective. We use “than” in the context of comparision in comparative degree. Here, I would like to mention an example to show its meaning now.

     Suppose we are given a sentence that is ” Anil is taller than Hari”. In this sentence two parts of sentence Anil and Hari are compared by “than”. And it has also connected the two parts of sentence those are” Anil is” and “Hari”. After being connected and compared it has given a meaning to the sentence. So we must say that “THAN” is a preposition that helps in combining and connecting parts of sentences.
 

THEN

On the other hand “THEN” is known as a timing word that means “at that time” and “after somthing”.  It is also a preposition.  But,  its basic use is to show a period of time in the context various work or activity.  We use it to show timing of activity.  It cant be used in connecting parts of sentences.

 

REMARKS:

then and than difference

Therefor there is a basic difference between than and then in the use of sentences. Both are prepositions but both are not used in same context.

 

EXAMPLES

 

1)  He earn more money ***than*** his brother.
Here than is used as a connective. It ia showing difference between he and his brother which is comparision in actual.
2)  He taught me a lesson and then ask me some questions.
Here then is showing a timing between two works. Then shows the time after something definatly.
